No lecture — sometimes it’s 9pm, the exam is at 9am, and the only interesting question is how to spend twelve hours. In order:

Retrieve, don’t re-read. This is the highest-value swap available tonight. Passes over notes build fluency, not access; testing yourself builds access. Past papers, end-of-chapter questions, or brute-force blank-page recall of each topic before you check the notes. It will feel slower and worse. It is worth more per hour.

Triage ruthlessly. You cannot master everything tonight, so stop pretending the syllabus is flat. Likely-tested topics you almost know are where hours convert best. The hardest chapter, from scratch, at midnight, is where hours go to die.

Space the night itself. Three passes over your triage list with breaks between beats one continuous grind — even within a single night, returning to material after a gap buys a little consolidation.

Then sleep. Actually sleep. Memory consolidates during sleep, and sleep deprivation degrades exactly what tomorrow needs: recall, attention, working memory. The 3am hours are the worst-converting hours of the night and they poison the good ones. A rested brain that saw 80% of the material beats an exhausted brain that saw 100% — tomorrow morning, that’s not close.
